If you knew what my mum looked like, you would see why I find this painting so funny! The woman in this painting looks exactly like her, so you can imagine my surprise and amusement when I stumbled upon this artwork in a book today!
The artist is Martin Maloney and he practices deliberately “bad” painting, where images (mostly figures) are achieved with apparently inept draughtsmanship and crude painting. He sees his work as a celebration of “the ordinariness of people”.
Is it possible for someone to be ordinary and one in a million at the same time? If so, then that’s my mum.
